Poseidonion Grand Hotel

The Poseidonion has stood on the Dapia waterfront on Spetses since 1914, built by the benefactor Sotirios Anargyros as a Belle Époque hotel for the Athenian families who summered on the island, and it has been the place they hold their weddings ever since. The building is the venue: a long seafront verandah facing the harbour, high-ceilinged salons behind it, and the town of Spetses starting at the front door. Cars are largely banned on the island, so guests move by horse-drawn carriage, water taxi and moped, which does more for a wedding weekend than any styling budget. The hotel publishes meeting rooms for up to 70, and larger receptions spread across the verandah and the gardens, so the working ceiling is our estimate rather than a published number. The thing to plan hardest is arrival. Spetses has no airport. Guests fly to Athens, cross to Piraeus and take a two-hour ferry, or drive to Kosta in the Peloponnese and cross by water taxi in ten minutes.
