About Kinsterna Hotel
Kinsterna is a Byzantine mansion on an estate of about 25 acres above the sea outside Monemvasia, restored and reopened as a hotel in 2010 after standing derelict.
The name comes from the cistern beneath the mansion, and the restoration kept the working parts of the property rather than smoothing them away: there is a vineyard, an olive press, citrus orchards and a kitchen that cooks from all of it.
Weddings use the gardens, the stone courtyards and the restored indoor rooms, with the chapel of Zoodochos Pigi on the slope above the water for the ceremony and other old churches scattered across the region within a short drive.
The rock of Monemvasia, a Byzantine fortress town built onto the side of a cliff and invisible from the mainland, is ten minutes away and is the reason to bring a guest list this far south.

How many guests can Kinsterna hold?+
The hotel does not publish a seated wedding capacity. The estate runs to about 25 acres with gardens, courtyards and restored indoor rooms, and we plan around 200 as an upper estimate. Confirm the figure with the hotel for your date.
Where can we hold the ceremony?+
The chapel of Zoodochos Pigi sits on the estate slope overlooking the sea, and other historic churches around Monemvasia are within a short drive. Civil ceremonies work in the gardens and the stone courtyards on the property itself.
How do guests get to Monemvasia?+
Kalamata (KLX) airport is roughly two hours and forty minutes by car, around 170 km. Athens is about four hours by road. There is no nearer airport, so build a coach or a set of private transfers into the plan rather than leaving guests to it.
Is there enough accommodation on site?+
Kinsterna has around 50 rooms and suites across the mansion and the estate buildings, which houses a good part of a wedding party. Overflow goes into Monemvasia and Gefyra, ten minutes away, where the hotels are small and book early.
What is Monemvasia?+
A Byzantine fortress town built onto the seaward face of a rock joined to the mainland by a causeway, invisible from the shore, and still lived in. It is the single best thing to give guests who have flown a long way, and it is ten minutes from the hotel.
