Vedema grew out of a 400-year-old winery in Megalochori, a medieval village in the south of the island, and it is the Santorini resort for couples who want a wedding weekend rather than a sunset photograph.
There are 74 suites and villas around a set of stone lanes and courtyards, so the whole party can stay on one property, which is close to impossible on the caldera rim.
The old canava, the vaulted wine cellar cut into the rock, is the room everyone remembers: Alati restaurant sits on top of it, looking out at the Megalochori bell tower and the vineyards.
Ceremonies work in the courtyards and on the terraces; dinner works in the canava when the meltemi is up, which is the practical argument for this side of the island in July and August.

How many wedding guests can Vedema hold?+
Vedema does not publish a seated wedding capacity. The resort has 74 suites and villas and several courtyards and terraces, and we plan around roughly 120 seated as an upper estimate. Ask the resort for the figure attached to the space and date you want.
Does Vedema have a caldera view?+
No. Vedema is inland at Megalochori in the south of the island, with vineyard and village views rather than the caldera. Pyrgos and the rim are about 15 minutes by car, so a caldera photograph is a short drive, not a walk.
What happens if it is windy on the day?+
This is the practical reason couples choose Vedema over a rim hotel. The meltemi blows across the Aegean from May to September and peaks in July and August, and the canava wine cellar and the enclosed courtyards give you a real indoor plan rather than a marquee on a cliff.
Can we book the whole resort?+
A full buyout of 74 keys is a large commitment and is quoted by proposal. Most wedding parties take a block of suites and villas instead and use one or two of the courtyards exclusively. Ask what room commitment comes attached to the space you want.
How far is Vedema from Santorini airport?+
Megalochori is about 15 minutes by car from Santorini (Thira) airport and around 10 minutes from Athinios port, which makes it the easiest of the island’s flagship properties for guests arriving by ferry with luggage.
