Belmond closed it for a full rebuild and reopened it in December 2023 with 72 rooms, suites and villas by the designer Tara Bernerd, so the property people knew for thirty years now reads as new work on old bones.
The beach is the point: about 1,600 metres of it, on water that is calm enough to swim in most mornings.
For weddings the resort will privatise the whole property for up to 200 guests, and the all-weather palapa takes the same number under cover, which matters on a coast where an afternoon squall in June is a normal event rather than a disaster.

Maroma exists in a quieter calmer and more peaceful pocket of the universe. From the moment you enter the property, life slows down. Every furnishing tile and decoration is thoughtful. The staff are warm and kind.

How many guests can Maroma hold?+
The resort privatises for up to 200 guests and the all-weather palapa seats the same number. Belmond suggests 100 to 150 as the size the property runs best at, and Aisle records the bookable range as 20 to 200.
Can we take over the whole hotel?+
Yes. Maroma has 72 rooms, suites and villas and Belmond quotes a full privatisation for weddings up to 200 guests. That is the only way to have the beach entirely to your party, and it is priced accordingly.
What happens if it rains?+
The all-weather palapa holds the same 200 as the beach, so the reception has a real indoor plan rather than a marquee bought on the day.
Is sargassum a problem on this beach?+
It can be. Sargassum seaweed reaches the Quintana Roo coast in some years, mostly between April and August, and no hotel fully controls it. Maroma clears its beach daily, but if seaweed would ruin the pictures for you, plan a November to March date.
How far is Maroma from Cancún airport?+
About 45 to 60 minutes by road, at km 51 of the Cancún to Tulum highway. That is the shortest transfer of any flagship venue on this coast, which matters when 80 guests are arriving on different flights across one afternoon.
