01 · In a sentence

Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel in Casole d’Elsa, open JuneNovember.

A castle first recorded in the year 998, on land farmed since Etruscan times, crowning a 4,200-acre private estate, one of the largest in Italy.

The Bargagli family restored it; Count Edoardo Visconti, brother of the film director Luchino, owned it through the dolce vita years and threw the parties to match, a provenance the estate still trades on.

Belmond took it over in 2018.

The wedding fact sheet is refreshingly concrete: ceremonies in the ancient amphitheatre (up to 150 for a blessing) or the San Tommaso chapel, receptions across the Limonaia Terrace, Courtyard and Tosca Terrace at up to 120 seated each, with published venue fees from €700 to €4,000 per space.

I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled to share about this hotel. It was our favorite hotel stay ever. It’s hard to express how much attention to detail there was in every aspect of the stay. Everything you come into contact with is of the highest quality. The room was incredible and massive. The bathroom was one I would want in my own home. The food at every restaurant was amazing and all locally sourced, if not from their own property. The service was 11/10 and went above and beyond for anything we requested. They felt like our friends, everyone was so personable and friendly. It is worth every penny and more, I cannot recommend it enough. We are already ready to go back.
