Amankila means peaceful hill, and Ed Tuttle built it in 1992 along the contours of an escarpment between two headlands on Bali’s east coast, near Candidasa and Padang Bai.
The image everyone knows is the three-tiered pool stepping down toward the Lombok Strait.
Thirty-one free-standing suites sit on the hillside above it, linked by elevated walkways, with twelve of them carrying private pools and a two-bedroom villa running to 660 square metres.
Below the resort, set back from the sand in a coconut grove, is the Beach Club with the property’s largest pool and eight beachside balés.

How many guests can Amankila seat?+
Aman quotes the Coconut Grove, the lawn between the resort and the beach, at up to 250 seated. The Beach Club suits smaller occasions and the two-bedroom villa terrace works for an intimate ceremony. The 250 figure is the property’s published ceiling.
Can guests stay at the resort?+
Only a core of them. There are 31 free-standing suites, so a 250-guest wedding puts most of the list in Candidasa or Manggis nearby, or brings them out for the day from Ubud and the south. Plan coach transfers and a long drive back.
How far is Amankila from the airport?+
Ngurah Rai International (DPS) is about two hours west, roughly 75 km through Denpasar and along the east coast road. Guests need a night either side of the wedding; this is not a venue you can reach after an evening flight.

What is there to do in East Bali?+
Tirta Gangga water palace, the Sidemen valley, Padang Bai for diving and the boats to Lombok and the Gilis, and Besakih temple on the slopes of Mount Agung. It is a genuinely different Bali from Seminyak, and guests should have a spare day for it.
When is the best time of year here?+
East Bali sits in the rain shadow of Mount Agung and is drier than Ubud in most months, which is one practical argument for the east coast over the interior for an outdoor dinner.
