Xcanatún is the hacienda you pick when you want the Yucatán estate look without the hour of coaching that Temozón or Chablé involves.

01 · In a sentence

Hacienda Xcanatún, Angsana Heritage Collection in Xcanatún, open February – May.

Xcanatún is the hacienda you pick when you want the Yucatán estate look without the hour of coaching that Temozón or Chablé involves.

The estate dates from 1789, sits ten minutes north of Mérida on the Progreso road, and was restored into a hotel long before the current wave of hacienda conversions; Angsana took it over and added a second wing of suites.

That gives it 18 historic suites in the old buildings and a larger number of newer ones, which is why it can hold a guest list that the smaller haciendas cannot.

Two rooms carry most ceremonies: the Capilla, which was the estate chapel in the eighteenth century and seats around 70, and the Arcangel at around 60.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

How many guests can Hacienda Xcanatún hold?+

The hacienda quotes up to 400 across its grounds. Individual rooms are far smaller: the Capilla takes about 70 and the Arcangel about 60. A wedding above roughly 120 uses the gardens rather than any single room, so confirm the layout for your number.

Can we marry in the old chapel?+

The Capilla was the estate chapel in the eighteenth century and now works as an event room seating around 70. It is used for civil and symbolic ceremonies. A Catholic wedding needs the Mérida archdiocese, and most couples use a city church for that and come here for dinner.

How close is it to Mérida?+

About ten minutes north of the city on the Progreso road, and roughly 25 minutes from Mérida International. That is the practical argument for Xcanatún: guests can stay in Mérida hotels and reach the hacienda in a short taxi ride rather than an hour by coach.

Can our guests stay at the hacienda?+

Yes, more than at most haciendas. There are 18 historic suites in the original buildings plus a newer wing added under Angsana, so a wedding party of 60 or more can sleep on site. Mérida’s hotels absorb the rest without a long drive.

When is the best season in Mérida?+

November through March is the reliable window, with warm days and cool evenings. April and May are the hottest months in the Yucatán interior and can pass 38C. The rainy season runs June to October, usually as short afternoon storms rather than washed-out days.
