Civitas Boutique Hotel in Rethymno 741 50, open JuneSeptember.

Civitas Boutique Hotel sits on Eleftheríou Venizélou, a tree-lined avenue in Rethymno's historic quarter, with views extending toward the Venetian harbor and Cretan coastline.

The property occupies a restored Venetian-era building, offering stone archways and period architecture as your backdrop.

Guests experience the Mediterranean setting from terraces and common areas while remaining steps from the Old Town's narrow streets and waterfront.

Noise was a big issue in our room. You could hear loud pipe sounds whenever toilets were flushed, and the A/C unit above the bed blew directly on us while making loud defrosting noises. Both of those were loud enough to wake us up constantly. The w/c and shower were very dark, we were literally using a phone flashlight just to go pee, it felt like going camping in the woods!! As others have mentioned, the water temperature kept jumping from freezing cold to scalding hot every few seconds. The shower floor was extremely slippery and water leaked out, pooling near the sink. There was no handrail or caddy, so we had to bend down on the slippery tiles to get our shampoo and other shower stuff all the time. On top of that, the only towel hook was placed quite far from the shower door (on the opposite side of the main room), meaning we had to walk across the pooled water on the slippery floor just to grab a towel. I nearly slipped several times in just two days. The towel hook was also awkwardly located above a power outlet, which seemed dangerous. Overall, the room felt poorly maintained and not comfortable or safe enough for the price. It gave the impression of being put together with whatever was available at low cost, rather than being thoughtfully designed with guest comfort, safety, and utility in mind.
