Capella Ubud, Bali in Keliki, open January, August – October.
Bill Bensley designed this as a nineteenth-century explorer’s camp in the Keliki valley north of Ubud, and he built it without felling a tree: the 23 tents are pitched on platforms threaded between the trunks.
Each has a copper bathtub, a canvas roof and a deck over the rainforest, and the public rooms follow the conceit, with the Officers Tent as the camp library where afternoon tea and evening canapés happen, Mads Lange as the dining tent, and Api Jiwa cooking Asian street food over fire.
For a wedding, understand the numbers first.
The Camp Fire Lawn is quoted at up to 45 guests and the Cistern deck at up to 40, both on a camp buyout.
4 notes of our own.

Asked along the way.
What is the maximum wedding size at Capella Ubud?+
The Camp Fire Lawn is quoted at up to 45 guests and the deck at The Cistern at up to 40, and both figures assume a full camp buyout. This is the ceiling: Capella Ubud is a 23-tent camp and cannot stage a large wedding.
Do we have to buy out the camp?+
For anything over about 14 guests, yes. The larger venues are quoted on a camp-buyout basis, which gives you all 23 tents and the whole property. Below that, the Lodge outdoor deck at 14 and the Wos River deck at 6 work without one.
What does a wedding at Capella Ubud cost?+
Planner listings report a starting package from about USD 12,000 for 30 guests before rooms. A camp buyout is quoted separately and is the dominant cost; ask for the buyout rate for your date first, because it decides whether the rest is affordable.
What are the tents actually like?+
Permanent structures on raised platforms with canvas roofs, hardwood floors, copper bathtubs, air conditioning and private decks or pools. There are one-bedroom and two-bedroom tents plus a lodge, 23 in total, all in the Keliki rainforest.
How far is the camp from Ubud and the airport?+
Ubud town centre is about 25 minutes south and Ngurah Rai International (DPS) is roughly 100 minutes, about 45 km. Keliki is genuinely rural, with no walkable restaurants or shops, so guests eat in the camp for the length of their stay.
What is the weather like in Keliki?+
Cooler and wetter than the coast at any time of year, because the camp sits inland and higher. April to October is the dry season, but afternoon rain happens in every month, so every outdoor plan needs a covered alternative.
