One convention worth keeping regardless of register: on a formal invitation, “the honour of your presence”. British spelling and all, belongs only to a ceremony in a house of worship. Everywhere else, request “the pleasure of your company”.

Common questions

Who should be listed as hosting on a wedding invitation?

Name the people issuing the invitation. That can be the couple, one family, both families or a broader phrase such as Together with their families. Agree on the wording with anyone you plan to name.

What is the difference between “honour of your presence” and “pleasure of your company”?

Traditional formal wording uses The honour of your presence for a ceremony in a house of worship and The pleasure of your company for other settings. You can also choose a simpler invitation, such as Please join us.

How do we word the invitation with divorced parents hosting?

You can list each parent on a separate line, with the names and titles they use. Discuss how to include any spouses and choose an order everyone understands. The generator provides a starting format you can edit.

Can we skip naming hosts entirely?

Yes. Use the couple’s names alone or begin with Together with their families. Choose the wording that fits how you want to invite your guests.
