The only hotel inside Terra Nostra Park, a botanical garden begun in 1780 in the volcanic crater of Furnas on São Miguel, and run by the Bensaude family since they built the Art Deco wing in 1935.
The park is the venue: twelve hectares of tree ferns, cycads, camellias and one of the largest collections of Australasian plants in Europe, wrapped around an ochre thermal pool fed by an iron-rich spring at about 38 degrees, which most guests will get into at some point in the weekend.
The hotel holds 86 rooms in two wings, and events run in the Art Deco hall, three rooms at Casino Terra Nostra taking up to 150, the Botania Hall inside the garden itself and the Tea Room down by Furnas lake.
This is the most remote venue in this collection and the least conventional: a wedding here is an island trip, with volcanic cooking pits, whale watching and hot springs attached, for guests willing to fly two hours out into the Atlantic.

How many guests can Terra Nostra hold?+
The hotel’s published room capacities top out at 150 in the largest Casino Terra Nostra room in theatre format, with two smaller rooms at 130 and 60. A seated wedding dinner will run below those numbers, so confirm the banquet layout.
Can we hold the ceremony in the garden?+
The hotel is the only one inside Terra Nostra Park and has the Botania Hall within the garden itself, alongside the Tea Room by Furnas lake. Access and timings inside the park are set by the hotel, so agree them early.
What is there to do in the Azores?+
Furnas has the thermal springs, the fumaroles and cozido cooked underground in volcanic soil. Whale and dolphin watching runs from Ponta Delgada, and the crater lakes at Sete Cidades are about an hour away across the island.
How do guests reach São Miguel?+
Ponta Delgada has direct flights from Lisbon in about 2 h 15 and seasonal routes from Boston, Toronto and several European cities. The hotel is 45 minutes east of the airport across the island, on a good road.
What is the weather like?+
Mild and wet. The Azores sit in the mid-Atlantic and Furnas is green because it rains, often in short bursts even in July. Temperatures hold around 18 to 25 degrees in summer, so plan an indoor room for every outdoor moment.
