Spread across three levels, it offers 33 well-designed rooms with modern, clean architecture and excellent upkeep by a friendly and attentive team. Rooms are compact but thoughtfully presented, with a choice of king or twin beds, luxurious linen, pillow selection, and double-glazed, soundproof balcony doors. Some rooms offer generous balconies, with the largest in Room 204. Amenities include air conditioning, pod coffee machine, safe, and access to a kettle from reception. Rooms are serviced every two days with full linen replacement, which is more than acceptable for its official two-star rating. Breakfast is included in the rate, offering continental through to full hot options comparable to a four-star property. The unusual addition of a lift for a hotel of this size makes access easy. The hotel is also home to Aperto, a highly regarded Italian restaurant and bar with a lively atmosphere. Given its popularity with both guests and locals, reservations are strongly recommended. Location is outstanding: just three minutes’ walk to Agios Georgios beach (arguably the best in Naxos) and five minutes to the harbour, with its many restaurants, boutiques, and the charming old town built on ancient ruins dating back to 4000 BC. Verdict: Stylish, modern, and exceptionally well-kept, the Sphinx Hotel offers far more comfort and quality than its two-star rating suggests — an excellent base in Chora, Naxos. Private review JF
