We stayed seven days and six nights at SoulShine and it was truly a tropical paradise. We woke up every morning with a fresh cup of coffee and watched the animals all around us. We saw a pair of red macaws (omg) in the treetops, heard the howler monkeys in the distance (you can’t mistake their mini-dinosaur roar) and saw the iguanas by the pool do their pushups. The whole place was lush green with all the native plants. We never took for granted how special it was to be so close to nature. The staff- from the second we arrived, the girls at the front desk and everyone at the restaurant (shoutout to Kim and Matteo) were amazing. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and they gave us great advice/tips about the surrounding area. Dining- although there are a bunch of amazing dining spots in Las Avellanas, we mostly dined at SoulShine because they were THAT good. By dined I mean we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We went for the Christmas dinner and it was one of the best meals we had (and we are hardened New Yorkers). Our fan favorites were the Jerusalem bagel (d), babka with cardamom ice cream (d), shakshuka (b), and all of the “sexy” drinks. Overall- We would normally gatekeep this place, but the owners really need to be commended for the beautiful piece of paradise that they created. We came here feeling drained from the world and left SoulShine feeling recharged.

We've enjoyed many brunches at Soul shine, they have always been prepared with care and passion. We wanted to try the dinner menu and it did not disappoint. The menu had mouthwatering choices and desserts so we are going back ASAP! The tabouli salad was addictive, so full of flavour, the Jerusalem bagel was warm and melted in your mouth with the brown butter mousse. The fish cigar was a true delicacy, excellent combo of flavours. The lamb in grape leaves was delicious and the beet kubeh soup had tasty lamb dumplings. The Rib eye skewer was perfectly cooked and tender. Thank you for another culinary adventure !

I have been following Soul Shine on Instagram for a long time and finally made the trip this January. Yael & Roee have created something so special. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with tropical birds and howler monkeys greeting you at different times of the day. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the food is exceptional. In 10 minutes you can be on one of Costa Rica’s best beaches, and other wonderful restaurants are just minutes away. Yael and the staff are so warm and friendly and do everything to make you feel right at home. We can’t wait to go back.
