Six Senses Douro Valley in Lamego, open June – September.
A 19th-century manor house on a terraced wine estate above the Douro, at Quinta Vale de Abraão outside Lamego, run since 2015 as Six Senses’ first European hotel.
The manor sits high enough that the river reads as a line of silver below the terraces, and the vine terraces themselves are UNESCO World Heritage, cut into the schist by hand over three hundred years.
Seventy-one rooms and suites, an organic garden, a wine library with over a thousand Portuguese labels, and a spa built into the hillside.
Weddings run to 250 guests across the lawns, terraces and dining rooms, moving through the estate rather than sitting in one room all night.

Asked along the way.
How many guests can Six Senses Douro Valley host?+
The estate takes up to 250 guests for an event, spread across the lawns, terraces and dining rooms. There is no single ballroom at that scale, so a large wedding here moves between spaces as the evening goes on.
When do we have to buy out the hotel?+
Weddings above 80 guests require exclusive hire of the estate. Below that the hotel will host without full exclusivity on a minimum commitment of ten bedrooms, which is the cheaper route for a small wedding.
What is the best time of year in the Douro?+
May, June, September and early October. The valley is a natural suntrap and July and August routinely pass 35 degrees on the terraces, while the vintage in late September puts the estate at its busiest and most photogenic.
How do guests get to the valley?+
Porto airport is about one hour twenty by car on the A4 motorway. There is also the Douro railway line from Porto to Régua, which is one of the best train rides in Europe and takes about two hours, then a short taxi.
Is there anything for guests to do?+
Wine tasting on the estate, the wine library, the spa, boats on the Douro and port houses within twenty minutes in every direction. Lamego with its baroque staircase is ten minutes away, and Régua a little further.
