Rhodes Town Hall in Rodos 851 00, open May–August.
Positioned in the heart of Rhodes Town at Plateia Eleftherias, this historic estate commands views across the Aegean from its elevated position in the Old Town.
The venue's classical architecture and central location provide a sophisticated backdrop where Mediterranean light floods stone facades throughout the day.
The 1.5-acre grounds offer both intimate indoor spaces and open-air terraces overlooking the harbor.
ΔΗΜΑΡΧΕΙΟΝ: This building is located in the center of Rhodes and was constructed in 1927 during the Italian occupation as the Governor’s Palace. It was commissioned by the Italian governor of the time, Mario Lago, and designed by the renowned architect Florestano di Fausto. • Its architecture stands out with a two-story layout, a surrounding arcade (a colonnaded walkway at street level), interior corridors, and office rooms on the ground floor. The building also includes two staircases—one external and one internal—and a central reception hall or governor’s office. • The design reflects the Italian desire to preserve a chivalric aesthetic from the past, incorporating elements influenced by Venetian Gothic and Hippodrome-style architecture. Particularly on the north and east facades, pointed arches and mullioned windows are distinctive features. • Later on, the building was repurposed as the seat of the Dodecanese Prefecture. Today, it serves as the Administrative Headquarters of the South Aegean Region (Περιφέρεια Νοτίου Αιγαίου). Therefore, while the inscription “ΑΗΜΑΡΧΕΙΟΝ” on the façade likely belongs to the building’s historic identity, it now serves a different administrative function.
