Palazzo Veneziano is a beautiful hotel with some genuinely excellent qualities, although our breakfast experience fell well below the standard of the rest of our stay. Our room was lovely—modern, beautifully decorated and finished to a very high standard, while still having an authentic Venetian luxury feel. The chromotherapy features in the bathroom were especially loved by our teenage daughter. The front-desk and bar staff were also excellent: friendly, helpful and professional throughout our stay. Unfortunately, breakfast was disappointing. The selection of food was good, but the cutlery was not laid on the tables and instead had to be collected by guests as part of the self-service arrangement. Personally, I find this approach rather cheap and impersonal for a hotel of this standard. It also means numerous people are handling the cutlery area, and the overall experience felt more like school dinners than breakfast in a luxury hotel. The breakfast area was extremely busy, so we did not have the option of sitting inside. I also noticed several flies landing on the biscuits and pastries, which was unpleasant and should be addressed. Nobody offered us coffee, so I eventually had to walk towards the kitchen area and politely ask for one. Rather than receiving a welcoming response, I was abruptly asked for my room number. Nobody appeared to be in charge of breakfast, and we did not see a manager in control, which may explain the poor experience. Overall, the breakfast service felt inattentive and was not in keeping with the quality of the hotel. The room, décor, front-desk team and bar staff were all excellent, and Palazzo Veneziano has a genuine feeling of Venetian luxury. With a more refined, hygienic and attentive breakfast service, the overall experience would be significantly improved.
