01 · In a sentence

Hacienda San Ángel in Puerto Vallarta, open March – May, December.

Hacienda San Ángel is four villas on the hillside above old Puerto Vallarta, joined by terraces, fountains and gardens into a 20-room hotel, one of them a house Richard Burton bought while he was filming in the bay.

The view is what sells it: the terraces look down onto the crown-topped spire of the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church, across the tiled roofs of the Zona Romántica, and out to Banderas Bay, with the Sierra Madre behind.

The hotel has its own chapel, Puerta del Cielo, which is where most ceremonies happen, and the terraces and gardens take dinner for up to about 60.

The full property runs to about 100 guests for a ceremony and reception combined.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

How many guests can Hacienda San Ángel hold?+

The hotel quotes up to 100 for a ceremony and reception across the whole property, with the gardens, fountains and terrace areas seating around 60 for a dinner. Aisle records the range as 10 to 100. Above 60 seated, the party spreads across several terrace levels.

Can we marry at the Guadalupe church?+

Yes, and many couples do. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is a few minutes downhill and its crowned spire is the landmark in every Puerto Vallarta photograph. The parish books directly and well ahead. The hotel’s own chapel, Puerta del Cielo, is the alternative on site.

Is the hotel accessible for older guests?+

Only partly. The hacienda is built into a steep hillside on several levels connected by stone stairs, and the streets around it are cobbled and steep. Guests with limited mobility will need help, and a car cannot reach every part of the property.

Can our whole guest list stay at the hotel?+

The hotel has 20 rooms across its four villas, which covers the wedding party and close family. Everyone else stays in the Zona Romántica or the hotel zone below, most of it within a ten-minute walk or a short taxi ride.

When is the best time of year in Puerto Vallarta?+

November through April is the dry season and the reliable window, warm and clear. June to October is the rainy season, with heavy afternoon storms and high humidity, and it overlaps hurricane season on this coast. December to March is peak and books out early.
