I stayed at Hotel Byblos in Saint-Tropez and unfortunately cannot recommend it as a true luxury property. The biggest issue is their completely unreasonable check-in and check-out policy. They set check-in at 4:00 pm and check-out at 11:00 am. Everywhere else in the world, proper 5-star hotels have check-in at 3:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm. At Byblos, they pretend to “do you a favor” by agreeing after requests to extend check-out until 12:00, or to let you into your room at 3:00, but in reality this is just the industry standard. What is truly shocking is that even though rooms here cost several thousand euros per night, they absolutely refuse to allow a check-out just 30 minutes later, at 12:30. In every other real luxury hotel I’ve stayed at, a late check-out of 30 minutes or even one hour is never a problem, regardless of whether the next guest is arriving at 3:00 pm. At Byblos, with check-in not until 4:00 pm, this strict and inflexible policy is especially poor. It treats guests like they don’t matter. What makes it even worse is that this wasn’t always the case. In previous years such basic requests were handled with more common sense. I’ve heard that recently there has been a change in management, and unfortunately, things have clearly declined under the new leadership.
