Genji Kyoto 源氏京都 in 600-8113, open JulyDecember.

Built in 1912 as a traditional machiya (wooden townhouse), Genji Kyoto has been meticulously restored to preserve its original Edo-period craftsmanship while incorporating modern luxury.

This intimate hotel in Shimogyo Ward offers authentic Kyoto hospitality within a building that once served as a merchant's residence, now welcoming guests to celebrate their wedding within its historic wooden beams and lantern-lit courtyards.

The venue holds a 4.8/5 Google rating and operates as a full-service hotel, providing both ceremony and accommodation under one roof.

I cannot say enough about the staff of Genji Kyoto Hotel. They are always smiling, attentive and responsive to every request. They addressed us by name from the start, asked us about our day, and remembered our favorite drinks. (Their English is very good also which was much appreciated.) We stayed for five nights and whenever we went out felt like we were coming home. The hotel is beautifully done and includes several unique Japanese gardens including a rooftop green space where we enjoyed several meals overlooking the river and city. We were grateful for the self laundry that was available at no charge. Rooms had great beds and linens with plenty of space. I recommend the river and garden view rooms especially. If you enjoy the intimacy and unique character of boutique hotels you will love your stay here.
