Finca El Campillo in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, open April, July – September.
A fortified house of the 15th and 16th centuries in the oak dehesa below San Lorenzo de El Escorial, half an hour from Madrid and in sight of Philip II’s monastery.
The building has a documented line back to the 13th century, was a hunting lodge for the Trastámara kings and was absorbed into the royal estates around El Escorial under Philip II; it is granite masonry and tile, austere in the Guadarrama farmhouse manner, with a Gothic hermitage in the grounds.
The estate runs to about 500 hectares of pasture, ponds and centenary paths, with formal gardens, stables and a viewpoint over the monastery.
Weddings work from 25 up to 300 guests.

Asked along the way.
How many guests can Finca El Campillo host?+
Spanish venue directories list the estate as serving wedding banquets from a minimum of 25 guests up to a maximum of 300, with roughly 300 covers across the indoor rooms and more in the gardens for an outdoor plan.
What are the main spaces?+
Las Caballerizas, the old stables, gives 300 square metres in two open rooms. El Mirador holds 200 and has a wide terrace looking at the sierra, an outdoor cocktail area and a room set up for dancing. The gardens carry outdoor ceremonies.
Can guests stay on the estate?+
No. There is no accommodation at El Campillo. Guests normally stay in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, ten minutes away and full of small hotels, or in Madrid, half an hour by road, with coaches back after the party.
How historic is the building?+
The Casa-fuerte de El Campillo has origins recorded from the 12th and 13th centuries, served the Trastámara kings as a hunting lodge, and passed into the royal lands attached to the Monastery of El Escorial under Philip II. It is granite masonry with tile roofs and once had corner turrets.
Which airport, and how far is Madrid?+
Madrid Barajas (MAD) is about an hour by road on the far side of the city. Madrid centre is roughly 45 kilometres, half an hour on the A-6 outside rush hour, and El Escorial has cercanías trains from Chamartín for guests without a car.
