The original hotel sits above Megali Ammos beach, a few minutes from Mykonos Town, with 32 suites, three one-bedroom villas and a clifftop infinity pool lit from beneath at night. Its sister property, The Coast at Agios Ioannis, adds Bill&Coo Beach and a second pool, and guests of either have run of both with the hotel’s own drivers moving between them. The kitchen is the reason the property has kept its reputation as the island changed around it: YĒVO is a serious restaurant, not a hotel dining room, and Beefbar Mykonos sits alongside it. For a wedding, the three-bedroom villa configuration is the private option, and the two properties together give you a beach and a clifftop without a coach. The limit is real: this is a couples-focused hotel of 32 suites, so a hundred-guest wedding does not belong here. Sixty to eighty is the honest ceiling.

Cavo Tagoo is the design hotel that set the visual grammar half of Mykonos now copies: white cubes cut into a cliff north of Mykonos Town, an infinity pool with a glass-walled aquarium bar set into it, and a straight view down onto the water. It is a ten-minute walk from the old town, which makes it the choice for couples whose guests want the island rather than a compound. Weddings here are done as a full property takeover, quoted in planner guidance at roughly 40 to 100 guests with the ceremony and reception both on site, and reported buyout figures of €60,000 to €180,000 for the weekend before catering. That is the honest headline: this is a party hotel with 80-odd rooms and a bar that is a destination in its own right, so a half-measure booking means sharing the pool deck with people who came for the pool deck. Take the whole thing or expect company. The upside is a hotel that already knows how to run a late night, in walking distance of Little Venice.

Domes Zeen is the design answer to the question of what a Cretan beach resort should look like, and it won an AHEAD design award for it. The property sits in a cove at Kato Daratso, a few minutes west of Chania, laid out as open-plan bungalows and pavilions in wood, cane and pale stone rather than the concrete blocks that line most of this coast. There are 105 or so keys, many with private pools or open-air lounges, two restaurants and a beach bar for the end of the night. For a wedding, the argument is location as much as looks: Chania old town, its Venetian harbour and its lighthouse are 10 minutes away, so guests get a real city on their doorstep instead of a resort strip, and the airport is 25 minutes. The resort takes destination weddings through Marriott’s wedding-planning route but does not publish a seated capacity, so the number here is our estimate from the venue count. Crete is the cheaper of Greece’s wedding islands per head, which is the other reason this shortlist reaches west.

The Grande Bretagne has faced Syntagma Square since the nineteenth century and is the hotel Athens holds its formal weddings in. There is over 1,100 square metres of function space inside, and the Grand Ballroom, at roughly 438 square metres, seats up to 500, which makes this one of the few rooms in Greece that can take a large black-tie dinner without a marquee. Alongside it sit the Golden Room, the Royal Room and the Athenian Hall for smaller parts of the day. The thing everybody actually comes for is the eighth floor: the GB Roof Garden restaurant looks straight across at the Acropolis, and there is no other dining terrace in the city with that view at that distance. This is a city wedding, so plan it as one. There is no beach and no pool terrace to spread into, the square below is a working political space where demonstrations happen, and August in Athens is hot enough to make an outdoor rooftop ceremony a genuine risk.
