Casona Sforza is eleven rooms under a run of brick vaults on the sand at Barra de Colotepec, at the quiet end of Puerto Escondido, designed by Alberto Kalach and opened in December 2020.
It has been photographed more than almost any building in Mexico since, and it earns the attention: the vaults are load-bearing brick laid in the old way, the furniture is made locally, and there is no glass in most of the openings, so the sea is audible from every room.
It is adults-only and it is small, which sets the terms.
Weddings here are buyouts of forty or fifty people, not receptions of two hundred, and the property is used as a house rather than a venue: ceremony on the beach in front, dinner at long tables under the vaults, and everyone staying put.

How many guests can Casona Sforza hold?+
The hotel does not publish an event capacity. With eleven rooms and an adults-only policy, weddings here run as buyouts for roughly 40 to 60 people with most guests sleeping elsewhere in Puerto Escondido. The 10 to 60 range on this page is Aisle’s working figure, not the hotel’s.
Is a buyout the only way to marry here?+
Effectively yes. At eleven rooms there is no way to hold a wedding without taking the property, and the hotel prefers it that way: private events are arranged directly rather than through packages. Contact the hotel early, because the calendar is short.
Can guests swim at the beach?+
Not safely, most days. The Oaxacan Pacific here has strong surf and rip currents, and Puerto Escondido is a serious surf destination for that reason. Tell guests before they pack. The hotel has a pool, and calmer swimming is a short drive away at Puerto Angelito.
How do guests get to Puerto Escondido?+
Puerto Escondido (PXM) is about 20 minutes away and takes flights from Mexico City and Oaxaca City. The coastal road from Oaxaca City takes six hours or so; the new highway has cut it, but flying is what almost every wedding guest does.
What is the weather like?+
Hot and humid year round, with the rainy season from June to October and the reliable dry window from November to April. December through March is the busiest stretch on this coast. Evenings on the sand are warm enough that nobody needs a jacket.
