How to add a custom domain to your wedding website

Choose a wedding website address, connect a domain you own or buy one, and check renewal, DNS and guest links before printing invitations.

At a glance

A custom domain is a web address you own, such as a couple’s names followed by .com. On Aisle, connecting a domain you already own is included with membership; buying a domain through Aisle is a separate annual charge, quoted before purchase.

Do you need a custom domain?

No. The address supplied by your builder is enough for a link, invitation or QR code. A custom domain can be easier to say or print, but it adds a renewal responsibility. Choose a short spelling that both families can type. Avoid changing the address after invitations go out unless you have checked how the old link will behave.

Buying a domain and connecting one are different actions. Buying registers the address; connecting points an address you already own to your wedding website. Forwarding sends visitors onward to a different address and is not the same as hosting the site at your domain. Ask which behavior your builder supports.

Connect an existing domain on Aisle

  • Build and preview the website first. Confirm your names, date, cover and guest entry before working on the address.
  • Start membership when you are ready to publish. In the domain controls, choose to connect a domain you own and enter the address.
  • Use the DNS records Aisle shows for that domain at your registrar. Do not copy records from another couple or an old tutorial. Keep unrelated email records intact.
  • Wait for verification and the security certificate to finish. Check the connected status, then open the exact address in a fresh browser and on a phone.
  • Test the invitation or QR link and a guest entry before printing. Keep access to the registrar account and a record of the renewal date.

DNS and certificate changes are not always immediate. If the address has not connected, compare the records in your registrar with the ones currently shown by Aisle before making further changes.

Separate website, domain and renewal costs

Connect your own domainIncluded with membership; registrar charges remain separate
Buy through AisleAnnual price shown before purchase
RenewalQuoted separately; check whether renewal is enabled

An introductory domain price does not establish the renewal price. Aisle emails a renewal notice 30 days before expiry and charges 14 days before expiry when renewal is enabled. Keep the owner email current and review domain renewal separately from membership cancellation.

Check the whole guest journey at the final address

A working homepage is only the first check. Follow the schedule, travel and RSVP links from the final address. If you link a registry elsewhere, confirm it opens the right registry and that guests can return to your wedding information. Ask a trusted invited guest to try their own entry without sharing anyone else’s credentials.

Use the RSVP QR code tool only after the destination is settled. Compare free website and domain costs before buying, and use the website setup checklist to finish the content.

Explore the Aisle wedding website builder for the full setup, or check current membership and fee terms before publishing.

Common questions

Can I use a domain I already own?+

Yes. Aisle includes owned-domain connection with membership. You retain responsibility for the registrar account, DNS changes and any registrar renewal charges.

Is a domain a one-time purchase?+

No. Registration lasts for a stated period and needs renewal to keep the address. Aisle domain purchases are billed annually and renewal is quoted separately.

Should I print invitations before the domain connects?+

Wait until the exact address opens securely and the guest journey works. Check the actual printed text and QR destination, not just the spelling in your account.

Will canceling website membership cancel domain renewal?+

Treat them as separate settings. Check the domain’s renewal status and registrar terms rather than assuming a membership cancellation stops an annual domain charge.
