Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, open June, August – October.

Topping Rose House is an 1842 Greek Revival building on the corner where the Bridgehampton to Sag Harbor turnpike meets the Montauk Highway, reopened as a hotel in 2013 with 22 rooms and suites split between the original building and cottages behind it.

Jean-Georges Vongerichten runs the kitchen, which is the reason people who live out here eat here rather than only stay.

For a wedding there are two rooms and a lot of lawn.

The restored Barn seats 60 for dinner and holds 100 standing, and the Studio, the larger of the two, seats 100 and holds 150 for a reception.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

How many guests can Topping Rose House seat?+

The Studio seats 100 for dinner and holds 150 for a standing reception, and the restored Barn seats 60 and holds 100 standing. Larger weddings tent the lawn, which changes the cost and the licensing, so raise it early.

Can our guests all stay at the hotel?+

Only the first 22 rooms’ worth. A fifty-guest wedding fills the hotel and then spreads into rental houses and inns around Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor, which is normal on the East End but needs organising months out.

Who does the food?+

The hotel kitchen, under Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who has run it since the property reopened in 2013. Menus are built with the events team after booking, and outside caterers are not part of how this venue works.

How do guests get to Bridgehampton?+

Most drive from New York, about two and a half hours without traffic and considerably more on a summer Friday. The Long Island Rail Road and the Hampton Jitney both run to Bridgehampton, and East Hampton Airport is 15 minutes away.

When is the best time for a Hamptons wedding?+

June and September. July and August are the most expensive and most crowded weeks of the year out here, with traffic and rental prices to match, and May and October can be beautiful and cold in the same weekend.

How far is the beach?+

About five minutes by car to Mecox and Sagg Main, both ocean beaches with parking that fills early in summer. Sag Harbor and its bay beaches are ten minutes north on the turnpike the hotel stands on.
