Built in 1892 as a historic gold rush-era trading post, The Carlin Boutique Hotel has been meticulously restored to preserve its original character while offering modern luxury for destination weddings.

Located at 43 Hallenstein Street in central Queenstown, this intimate 35-room property delivers authentic heritage charm with contemporary amenities, hosting weddings of 20 to 150 guests within its carefully curated spaces.

Unfortunately, the Carlin was in insolvency at the time of my stay, which significantly affected the experience. When booking, I explained I had special needs due to ongoing oncology treatment, however I was not advised that many services were no longer operating. While the room itself was beautiful — with a stunning view, very large balcony with a hot tub — the stay fell well short of expectations for a hotel at this price point. The restaurant was only open for breakfast, there was no room service, and no staff onsite after dark, which felt unsettling as a solo female traveller. The location is also quite isolated and set high on a steep hill, making access to food and town difficult, particularly with limited mobility. The lack of transparency was disappointing given the cost. Had this been clearly communicated, I would have planned differently. The one positive was Patrick, who genuinely tried to make the stay memorable by assisting with local sightseeing around Queenstown. I truly appreciated his efforts. Overall, exceptional views and accommodation, but the absence of services and communication made this a frustrating stay. The Panorama Suite - Aug 2024
