Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel & Resort in 22450-220, open April–September.
Perched on the cliffs of Leblon with unobstructed Atlantic Ocean views, the Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel & Resort commands one of Rio de Janeiro's most dramatic coastal positions.
The property's modernist architecture frames the Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer across the bay, while the beach sits directly below the venue's terraces.
With 288 rooms and multiple event spaces, this five-star resort transforms seaside vistas into an architectural backdrop for ceremonies and receptions.
The hotel has a truly beautiful setting, with a wonderful view and a great beach. The natural surroundings are without question the highlight of the stay. Unfortunately, the property itself does not match the location. The hotel feels dated and tired, and given the price point, it is significantly overpriced for what is being offered. There is a clear gap between the rates being charged and the overall quality and experience delivered. The staff are friendly and polite, but there appears to be very little flexibility in service. Requests are met with rigid policies rather than solutions. For a hospitality brand of this level, that is disappointing. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I expected at least some recognition or added value, but membership made no noticeable difference here. That was particularly surprising. The food was also underwhelming. I tried several dishes and found the quality to be poor, with ingredients that did not feel fresh. At this price level, the dining experience should be far better. I genuinely wish I had read more of the reviews before booking, as many of them reflect a similar experience. This has been one of the weakest Bonvoy properties I have stayed at, especially considering the cost. I hope management takes the feedback seriously. The location deserves a property and service standard that matches it.
