Perched in the historic Santa Teresa neighborhood, Rio144 offers sweeping vistas across Rio de Janeiro's skyline and the Atlantic beyond, with colonial architecture framing every angle.

This boutique hotel sits at elevation on Rua Almirante Alexandrino, where winding cobblestone streets and 18th-century facades create an atmospheric backdrop.

The property's 4.9-star rating reflects its reputation for intimate gatherings in a setting where urban views meet Old World charm.

A genuinely magical place !!! The views are sublime, world-class, unbeatable; superlatives easily become exhausted here. You can see both The Redeemer and Guanabara / Rio Bay from the romantic roof-top bar and sun terrace. The rooms are great; (again with bay views), and are very quiet and tastefully appointed - as is the rest of the property. The owners Ståle and Jean are lovely, helpful and interesting guys who live onsite most of the year; (they have another boutique hotel in Marrakesh; Riad 144). My wife and I spent a wonderful few days after a trip to the Chilean Atacama. We loved Rio and felt very safe and, as long as you stick to the main tourist areas and exercise some practical judgment on your surroundings etc, you can reasonably expect a hassle-free experience in this spectacular and vibrant city. Ubers and walking are the best, and easiest, way to get around. Would love to go back. ***Always remember to put the sugar for the Caipirinha's back in the fridge at the end of the night, as the monkeys steal it ;-)
