Le Negresco in Nice, open June–September.
Perched on the Promenade des Anglais with unobstructed views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Baie des Anges, Le Negresco commands one of the French Riviera's most coveted positions.
This Belle Époque palace hotel, built in 1912, rises against the backdrop of the Alpes-Maritimes mountains and the endless blue waters below.
The venue's iconic pink dome crowns the skyline, visible for miles along the coast.
We stayed here for our honeymoon and a few things were disappointing. To preface, the hotel itself is beautiful, in a great central location and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Also, the bar restaurant food was excellent. That said, we were disappointed with the room for the price. It was quite small and the view from the window felt like “prison bars.” We also found the air conditioning lacking—it didn’t cool enough and only reached a limited temperature. The bathroom was by far the most unsatisfactory part. The shower was elevated and there were no shower doors, so the layout is basically an exposed raised structure that you have to step up into and then back down. Water easily gets all over the floor. Since I was pregnant, I genuinely worried about my safety every time I showered. Finally, there were no outlets in the bathroom and the toilet was problematic throughout our entire stay. I want to point out an outstanding positive which was housekeeping. They were extraordinary and probably the best part of our stay here. Overall, it wasn’t the worst experience but we likely would not return due to these conditions.
