Katane PalaceHotel

Conveniently located near Catania Town centre so booked as it was a good base for my husband and I to do sightseeing in Sicily. Beautifully designed reception and foyer, courtyard was gorgeous. No porter though so had to take our luggage up ourselves. Tasty breakfast and friendly staff. Room was basic though for a 4 star hotel with plain old furniture and everything looked old like chipped old furniture, chips in ceiling, small TV on table, not a flatscreen etc, surprised- hotel must renovate. It was comfortable although it seemed to get hot quickly (air con system was fiddly and not working well most of the time) so didn't sleep well. No iron or ironing stand provided, spoke to reception who said they will send someone to give them to me who then told me that the hotel does the ironing for guests if we give clothes in the mornings, they will return them ironed by noon. Disappointed as I prefer to do my own ironing and found it a hassle as we often left to explore in the mornings so decided not to go ahead. Bathroom was nice but found bathtub small and there were several marks and chips in it due to wear and tear. Overall, a comfortable stay in a hotel which felt authentic but disappointed by how basic it was for a 4 star hotel which spoilt my experience so giving 2 stars. It is definitely overpriced compared to other 4 star hotels so had high hopes but it seemed more like a 3 star in some ways as it was basic. The hotel could do with renovating its look to boost its beauty, look modern and provide a true 4 star service.
