JW Marriott Hotel Rio deJaneiro

What a pity this holiday turned out to be for us as a couple in this place . We were even forced to end our stay at this hotel well before the end of our prepaid one-week reservation. We lasted three days . We preferred to lose the money rather than spend another day there. My husband is a lifetime Marriott Ambassador member, and we live and breathe the Marriott brands for their service and impeccable locations from Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Autograph Collection, Sheraton, to JW Marriott. We have stayed in Marriott properties across Japan, Colombia, Dubai, China and beyond, and never have we encountered such disappointment as we did at the JW Marriott Copacabana. This property is in URGENT need of a full renovation. The entry , hallways, restaurant, lounge, swimming pool, and terrace , the rooms , the gym , the spa , all feel tired , unattended and outdated. Unfortunately, the service reflects the same lack of care , a noticeable absence of precision , of basic management of other language than Portuguese , lack of attention to detail, and refinement and at times very impolite . This location /hotel has lost the purpose of the Marriott philosophy. Marriott should seriously reconsider their affiliation and standards for this location. In our experience, it reads more like a 2.5 to 3-star property, which is entirely inconsistent with the level expected from the JW Marriott brand. To put this into perspective, in our travel we stayed at the JW Marriott São Paulo, and what a difference — that property is truly exceptional, easily deserving five stars. Every detail was impeccable, and the level of staff training and professionalism elevated the entire experience. We sincerely hope Marriott will review and restore the standards of the JW Marriott Copacabana to align with the excellence their brand promises worldwide.
