Frank Gehry’s titanium ribbons over a working winery founded in 1858, in the medieval village of Elciego, an hour south of Bilbao in the Rioja Alavesa.
It was Gehry’s second building in Spain after the Guggenheim and it does the same trick: a shape you have seen in photographs a hundred times, standing in vineyards, with the village church behind it.

May, June and September. Harvest runs from late September into October and the estate gets busy with it, which is atmospheric but crowds the calendar. Winters in the Ebro valley are cold and the vineyards are bare.
