Hotel Byzantino Monemvasia in Monemvasia 230 70.

Built in the 1970s atop the medieval Monemvasia Castle, Hotel Byzantino occupies a restored fortress structure that dates back centuries, blending modern hospitality with authentic Byzantine architecture.

The hotel underwent comprehensive restoration to preserve its historical character while offering contemporary amenities, creating a venue where ancient stone walls frame celebrations against the Aegean Sea.

Guests experience the weight of history—the castle itself has stood for over 1,000 years—while enjoying refined accommodations within its dramatically perched location.

Super friendly and helpful people at reception. We had a room close to the main street with a great view from the terrace over the buildings below to the sea and also to the upper town. Be prepared for parking a car on the road to the town walls and then walking in maybe 100 feet to their office. The rooms are in many small building, not at the office. The nice breakfast was at another (convenient) nice location. This is a fun, interesting town to visit.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

What is the historical significance of Hotel Byzantino's location?+

The hotel sits within Monemvasia Castle, a 1,000-year-old Byzantine fortress that once served as a major Mediterranean trading hub. The castle has been meticulously preserved, and the hotel's 1970s structure was built respecting the original fortification layout, allowing guests to literally walk through centuries of history.

Can we hold both ceremony and reception at the venue?+

Yes. The hotel offers multiple event spaces including terraced outdoor areas overlooking the sea, indoor halls within the castle structure, and intimate courtyards suitable for ceremonies and receptions of 20-150 guests.

Is the castle location accessible for all guests?+

Monemvasia Castle is accessed via a causeway and narrow streets. While the main hotel areas are accessible, some castle ruins and elevated terraces involve steps and uneven terrain. Coordination with the hotel regarding mobility needs is recommended.
