I hate booking a room with a bath (read BATH - bathroom is obvious) and then getting a room with a shower. The bellman told me the hotel was full and no change could be made, but thank goodness I chose to personally go to reception and repeat my request for a room with a bath. That was available after all... and happened to be right next door to the room I was in. The move was quickly made and already running late, I was out the door within minutes. On my return hours later I was told the elevator was out of order for the evening, but being on the 1st floor taking the stairs was no hardship - although I would think it troublesome for some of the other guests. The light switch in the room was difficult to locate, the thermostat didn't function properly, but an open window to the courtyard took care of that. My biggest beef was that there was no turn down service - a major disappointment for a weary traveler. I took a long leisurely bath, only to find that there were some items missing that belong in a hotel of the niveau Recamier claims or at least aims to be. No hairdryer in the room, the small packets of selected q-tips and the like had been opened by a previous guest, which was a huge turn off in thinking about what else might have been used prior. That should have been checked and the opened items replaced. Since I only spent one night and knew where I would want to purchase my breakfast, I quickly checked out and was on my way again. But having spent a lot of nights in Paris hotels, including Recamier many years ago before it was remodeled, I'm sorry, I would not return to it again in future - I'm happier several blocks up.
