Grand Hotel Duomo in Pisa, open April–August.
Grand Hotel Duomo sits in an urban setting in Pisa, offering a restored property with an elegant feel for couples who want their celebration in the heart of the city.
The hotel holds a meeting and banquet space for the reception, plus 12 room types ranging from Single Rooms and Double Room Single Use up to Family Rooms and Two Connecting Double Rooms with View sleeping four, so guests can stay where they celebrate.
Several categories, including the Superior Triple Room with View and the Double or Twin Room with View, look out over the surroundings.
Pisa International Airport (PSA) is the nearest airport, and we estimate transfers take around 12 minutes, which keeps travel simple for guests flying in.
Perfect location, although the rooms are fairly average and quite dated. The hotel itself is old-fashioned, which was a bit of a surprise at first — including physical keys rather than key cards. That said, everything was clean, which was reassuring. Soundproofing isn’t great, and you can hear noise from neighbouring rooms such as TVs, taps, and showers. We were initially concerned this might affect sleep, but thankfully it wasn’t too disruptive. Our room faced the street, so there was also some outside noise at night and in the morning from traffic and street cleaning. On the positive side, the staff at reception were very friendly and always happy to help, whether answering questions or arranging taxis quickly when needed. The standout feature of this hotel is definitely its location. Stepping outside gives you plenty of great places to eat right away, and the nearby tower is within walking distance for sightseeing. Even the hotel rooftop offers a nice view. The train station is around a 20-minute walk, or a short taxi ride. There are also lots of interesting small shops nearby, including a traditional food store just opposite the hotel which was a highlight for us. Breakfast is fairly average, so we sometimes chose to eat out instead, especially with so many good options nearby. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its location and price, but be aware that the rooms are basic and it can be a bit noisy.
