3/5 Stars We stayed for two nights in a suite at the Bowline Hotel. The property has a lot of potential, and the location is hard to beat. The waterfront views are excellent, and it’s within easy walking distance of Astoria’s restaurants and attractions. Unfortunately, the execution falls short. The rooms appear clean at first glance, but the housekeeping seems to be surface-level only. Move a chair or look behind the couch, and you’ll find dust and dirt that clearly haven’t been cleaned in some time. There are also some practical drawbacks. The hotel has no on-site parking, so you’re left with street parking or paying for valet service. More importantly, the rooms do not have air conditioning. While Astoria is often cool enough that this isn’t an issue, on warmer days the rooms become uncomfortably hot. The staff experience was mixed. Some employees were reasonably helpful, but our interaction at the front desk on the morning of checkout was disappointing. When we asked about coffee before 8:00 a.m. and had a few other questions, the response was simply, “No coffee until 8 a.m.,” repeated several times, with little interest in helping or offering alternatives. It left the impression that customer service wasn’t a priority. Overall, Bowline Hotel has an excellent location and attractive rooms with great potential, but inconsistent housekeeping, the lack of air conditioning and parking, and uneven service kept this from being a better stay.
