Borgo San Luigi in Strove, open April–August.
Borgo San Luigi is a restored 16th-century stone hamlet in Tuscany's Val d'Orcia region, originally built as a farming community and painstakingly renovated to preserve its medieval architecture while introducing modern hospitality.
The property maintains its original terracotta roofs, exposed beams, and ochre-colored stone walls, creating an authentic countryside setting.
With 4.6-star Google ratings, the hotel offers guests direct access to Tuscany's rolling hills and vineyard landscapes.
Our stay at Borgo San Luigi was very disappointing. Honestly, the experience felt closer to a 2-star hotel than a 4-star property. We have stayed in several 4-star hotels in Italy and abroad, and the standards here were clearly much lower. The check-in and check-out were quick and efficient, and the reception team was pleasant. Unfortunately, that was the only positive point. The rest of the experience was far below what you would expect from a 4-star hotel: - The room felt very old and outdated. - The shower was leaking, which flooded the entrance area of the room. - Overall, the room felt poorly maintained. - There was no complimentary water in the room, which is usually the bare minimum in a 4-star hotel. The bottles in the minibar were chargeable. - The TV only had about twenty local Italian channels, which is very limited for a hotel. We actually didn’t want to stay in the room and only used it to sleep before leaving quickly. The bed was comfortable, but that alone doesn’t justify a 4-star rating. The night before, we stayed at another 4-star hotel nearby with much higher standards. Unfortunately it was fully booked that night, otherwise we would have stayed there instead.
