Agriturismo La Melazza in Roma.
Built in the 1920s as a working agricultural estate, Agriturismo La Melazza has been thoughtfully restored to preserve its original Roman villa architecture while adding modern hospitality amenities.
Located on Via Monte Pineta in Rome's countryside, this historic property maintains 12 hectares of vineyards and olive groves, operating as both a functional farm and intimate hotel venue.
The restoration honored the building's agrarian heritage while creating flexible spaces for ceremonies and receptions.
Some friends and I chose Agriturismo La Melazza for a Sunday lunch. It was our first time there and, probably, our last. The basic concept is interesting: they organize lunch with families with children in mind, with entertainers who keep them entertained while the parents eat. On paper, it's a great idea. The problem is that, given how it's organized, it's still just an idea with a lot of room for improvement. As soon as we entered, we immediately noticed a certain amount of confusion. We had to wait for about five minutes standing without anyone welcoming us or directing us to our table, while the line behind us continued to grow. The main room is very large, but the tables are too close together. Plus, there's music from the entertainers working with the children. It must be said that the entertainers are always smiling and helpful, so there's nothing to complain about. The key is the organization: if the goal is for families to relax during lunch, putting entertainment, music, and tables all in the same room only creates a lot of chaos. It's difficult to even have a simple conversation at the table without the music practically in your ears. The food could also be improved. The menu is set but fairly bland, with nothing that really stands out. For example, the fennel salad seemed to have been prepared the day before; it was wilted and had a bit of water at the bottom. Overall, a decent lunch, but without any particular strengths. The only thing I found really nice was the opportunity for children to go on a pony ride (€5), which is definitely a fun experience for them. It's just a shame that it's offered without a receipt, despite the number of children attending. In short, there are better options for spending a Sunday at a farmhouse. There's potential here, but more attention to organization, space management, and service quality is needed.
