A resort wedding for 30 to 60 guests, with a reception, photography and upgraded flowers, is estimated at US$10,000 to US$20,000 before flights and rooms, yours or your guests'. Your resort or marriage officer applies for the license, which carries J$4,000 in stamp duty and is valid for 90 days. Bring a passport, a birth certificate, and divorce or death papers if they apply.
A couple who live abroad must be on the island for at least 24 hours before the ceremony. No blood test is required, and getting married in Jamaica is mostly a matter of sending the right documents to your resort ahead of time.
All-inclusive resorts put the ceremony, reception and catering into one package. Sangster International (MBJ) in Montego Bay, the island's busiest airport, has direct flights from most major North American cities.
The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs issues the license (officially the Minister's Marriage Licence) and publishes the full procedure.
Both of you must be at least 18 (16 or 17 with written parental consent). The Ministry issues the license to a man and a woman only, and Jamaica's Constitution allows no form of marriage other than the union of one man and one woman, so same-sex couples cannot legally marry in Jamaica.

The Ministry asks for originals or certified copies of these for each of you, plus photocopies if you present originals.
Anything not in English needs a translation by a certified translator. Ask your coordinator for the resort's own list in writing.
The government fee is stamp duty of J$4,000, which the Ministry says is subject to change and the Jamaica Tourist Board puts at less than US$40. What a resort charges to handle the license is separate and larger: Sandals sets its marriage license and administration fee in Jamaica at US$250, and its standard wedding packages do not include it.
The Ministry of Justice says Jamaica's marriage certificate is widely accepted abroad, but that confirming your own country recognizes it is your responsibility. The U.S. State Department says marriages legally performed and valid abroad are, in general, also valid in the United States, and Canada and the UK publish similar rules. Some countries want the certificate legalized, so ask your embassy or consulate.
What it costs to get married in Jamaica depends mostly on the guest count and on whether you choose a resort package or a private estate. These are planning estimates in US dollars for the wedding itself, not quotes from any resort. They leave out flights and rooms, yours and your guests', and they do not say whether tax and service charges are included, so ask each venue for a price with both.

Treat the last row as a floor and get a written quote. Packages for the couple alone can cost less than the first row. Sandals waives its package for up to 10 guests on a stay of at least 7 nights in a Club or Butler room, with the ceremony Monday to Thursday between 9am and 2pm; you still pay for the stay, the license fee and any add-ons.
Budget separately for the license and the resort's fee for handling it, travel and rooms for the two of you and the wedding party, welcome bags, excursions you host, and tips for vendors, which are customary. Photography, upgraded flowers, live music and a private reception are usually add-ons.
For 70 guests, the guide to all-inclusive destination wedding packages carries higher summary estimates: US$15,000 to US$30,000 at budget-tier resorts and US$30,000 to US$65,000 at mid-tier brands such as Sandals. Neither set is itemized, so plan toward the higher figures at that size.
The dry season, December through April, has the most reliable weather, with temperatures that Sandals puts at 77 to 86°F. It is also peak travel season, and the best dates go a year or more ahead. Otherwise book the resort nine to twelve months out. Send save-the-dates 8 to 12 months before the wedding, as soon as the date and resort are confirmed; the destination wedding timeline covers the rest.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 and, by the U.S. National Hurricane Center's figures, peaks on September 10. Late October is not clear of it: Hurricane Melissa came ashore near New Hope, in Westmoreland parish, on October 28, 2025 as a category 5 storm, the strongest on record to make landfall in Jamaica. For any date from June through November, buy travel insurance and agree a covered backup with the venue.
Montego Bay is the most convenient base, because the main airport is there.

The Jamaica Tourist Board says all airports are operating and most resort areas are up and running, and it keeps a hotel-by-hotel reopening list. On October 7, 2026 it showed most hotels open and several Montego Bay resorts reopening in 2027. Look up your resort before you pay a deposit.
Estates and villas give you more privacy and control than a resort package.
Base packages typically cover the ceremony setup, the officiant, a simple bouquet and boutonniere, and a small cake; the license paperwork can be a separate fee. Private villas are usually rented whole, often with a seven-night minimum in high season and five nights in low season.

No. Jamaica's Constitution says no form of marriage other than the voluntary union of one man and one woman may be contracted or legally recognized there, and the Ministry of Justice issues its license only to a man and a woman.
