01 · In a sentence

Quinta Real Oaxaca in Oaxaca de Juárez, open February – May.

Quinta Real Oaxaca occupies the former Convento de Santa Catalina de Siena, built in 1576 and converted into a hotel without erasing what it was.

The cloisters, the frescoed corridors, the stone arcades and the central fountain are all original, and the whole block sits inside the UNESCO-listed centre of Oaxaca, four minutes on foot from the Zócalo.

Seven event spaces cover about 18,400 square feet.

The Chapel of the Rosary, with its vaulted stone ceiling, is the ceremony room and the reason most couples come; the interior gardens and the cloister courtyards take the dinner.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

How many guests can Quinta Real Oaxaca hold?+

The hotel quotes capacity up to 600 in the chapel area for its largest configuration. A seated dinner in the cloister gardens is far smaller. Aisle records a working range of 30 to 400, because most weddings here run well under the headline number.

Can we marry in the chapel?+

Yes. The Chapel of the Rosary is part of the original convent and is used for ceremonies, civil and religious. A Catholic wedding needs the local diocese as well as the hotel; the events team coordinates it and the paperwork takes longer than couples expect.

What does a wedding at Quinta Real Oaxaca cost?+

Oaxaca planners report an average venue fee between $12,000 and $22,000 USD. Food, beverage and rooms are quoted separately in pesos. Oaxaca is materially cheaper than the coastal resorts for the same guest count, and the food is better.

When should we avoid Oaxaca?+

Guelaguetza in the second half of July and Día de Muertos from late October to 2 November fill every hotel in the city, raise rates and take the good vendors out of the market. They are wonderful to attend and hard to marry inside. October and April are the calm months.

How do guests get to Oaxaca?+

Oaxaca Xoxocotlán International (OAX) is 20 to 30 minutes from the centro and takes direct flights from Mexico City, Houston and Dallas. Most international guests connect through Mexico City. The drive from Mexico City is about six hours and is not worth it.
