I'm dead reading that this place used to be a monastery, because those monks would be rolling in their grave. Fair to say that this was the most hostile, money-grubbing interaction with hotel management I've ever experienced and we are foregoing our booking to stay in a classier borgo, taking the financial hit if we must. My partner and I had a wedding planned next year, and he made an accidental Expedia booking through my account at Hotel Relais (it was one of the places recommended to us by one of our local wedding vendors). He booked on December 30th and the reservation was for April 2026, so more than three months away. The location is situated a bit far from our venue and if you know about weddings, timing is important. We are foreigners and first-timers to Italy just to put it out there. When I recognized the mistake, I immediately reached out (in a span of an hour) to the hotel to explain the situation and request a refund. The short answer was 'NO REFUNDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES', citing I agreed to a non-refundable policy that I technically didn't. I'll admit, I wish my partner was more attentive and ran the booking by me before finalizing. When I expressed being dissatisfied with the response from management and that I'd be issuing a poor review for their lack of customer service, they stated reporting us to Expedia and their legal department for get this: threatening them. Hmm, you'd think that if Hotel Relais cared so much about their reputation, they'd be a bit more diplomatic towards prospective guests. In short, believe the multiple negative reviews when it comes to the unfriendliness, uncaring attitude of this establishment. We've learned our mistake.
