Hotel restaurants earn their skepticism. Most exist because guests are too tired to go looking for something better. Al-Zagal is not that restaurant. We ate here twice during our stay, which tells you what you need to know. The first time was convenience. The second was a choice. The menu is more thoughtful than you'd expect from a four-star hotel café. The potato wedges came heavily seasoned and sauced, the kind of side dish that keeps getting eaten past the point you planned to stop. The pizzas had proper crust, properly blistered, with toppings that were generous and well-balanced. A BBQ chicken with red onion that worked, and a straightforward margherita done right. Nothing was hotel-grade safe. The kitchen clearly takes it seriously. The service matched. Attentive without hovering, which is its own skill. If you're staying here, don't default to eating elsewhere just because it's the hotel restaurant.
