We stayed at the DoubleTree in Huntington for several days while attending a local convention, and while there were some genuine highlights, the overall experience left our family of six disappointed. On the positive side, the location is excellent — right in the heart of downtown with a beautiful view of the river and the hills beyond. The rooms were generally clean and comfortable, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, several maintenance and service issues dampened our stay. The carpets were noticeably dirty, the shower water pressure was barely a trickle, and the in-room safe was non-functional. Toward the end of our visit, one of the two elevators broke down and remained out of service for the last day and a half, resulting in long waits and overcrowded cars — a real inconvenience for a full hotel. The most frustrating issue, however, was a miscommunication at booking. When I called to make our reservations, I specifically asked whether breakfast was included and was told that it was. Upon arrival, we discovered it was not — breakfast is $18 per person. For a family of six, that's over $100 a day, which simply isn't feasible. This kind of misinformation at the point of booking is unacceptable and set a poor tone for the entire stay. The bones of a good hotel are here — the location alone is a real asset. But management and ownership would do well to invest in renovations, address ongoing maintenance issues, and ensure front desk staff are providing accurate information to guests at the time of booking.
