01 · In a sentence

Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs, open July – October.

Camp Lucy is 275 acres on a bluff above Onion Creek in the Texas Hill Country, half an hour west of Austin.

Whit Hanks built it and named it for his mother, and the buildings are the reason to come: Ian’s Chapel is a nineteenth-century French Colonial church that was taken apart in Vietnam, shipped over and rebuilt here, and Tillie’s, the restaurant, was a Vietnamese town hall that came over the same way.

Sacred Oaks is the other half of the property, a ceremony site under old live oaks strung with lights, with a timber-framed great hall and a bell tower behind it that seats up to 350.

Ian’s Chapel takes up to 300 in its events hall.

07 · Questions

Asked along the way.

How many guests can Camp Lucy seat?+

Up to 350 in the Sacred Oaks great hall and up to 300 in the events hall at Ian’s Chapel. Smaller weddings use the pavilion, the courtyard and the great lawn, and the property is comfortable from about 50 guests upward.

What does a wedding at Camp Lucy cost?+

Venue packages at Ian’s Chapel and Sacred Oaks start at $10,500, and bar packages run $35 to $55 a guest. Catering, rooms and everything else are quoted separately, and prices move with season and day of the week.

Can guests stay on site?+

Yes. There are 36 guest rooms, three suites and two cottages from around $409 a night, which covers most of a fifty-guest wedding. Austin and Dripping Springs have plenty of rooms for anyone who spills over.

Will another wedding be happening at the same time?+

Possibly. Camp Lucy has several venues on one property and runs more than one wedding a day in season. Each venue has its own grounds and entrance, but ask which of the others is booked on your date before you sign.

Which airport should guests fly into?+

Austin-Bergstrom International, about 50 minutes east, with direct flights from most of the United States and several European cities. San Antonio International is a little over an hour away as a second option.

When is the best time of year for a Hill Country wedding?+

March to May and October to November. Texas summers run into the high 90s and beyond, which is hard on an outdoor ceremony and on guests in suits. Bluebonnets come out in late March and early April.
