Chiang Mai was our second stop in Thailand, and it had a totally different vibe than Bangkok. It was wonderful to get to experience this area with the culture, elephants, and markets. The Anantara sits beautifully in a serene area near the river. We were greeted by the very attentive staff and brought to an immense and well appointed room. The large glass wall facing out gives you a beautiful view of the grounds and meditative pool. We saw some traditional dancers and moving to peaceful music. The large windows did make us feel a bit exposed, as the view out allows for a view into our room as well, so we drew the shades when we needed privacy. We had dinner at the steak house restaurant, 1921. The food and service were excellent. Later meals at the Bodhi Terrace were wonderful as well, serving a delicious traditional Thai dishes. Breakfast was very good with a wide array of choices for any appetite. The room was gorgeous, the service was wonderful, and the location near the markets was perfect for exploring. We highly recommend this hotel for a luxurious getaway.
