Zola vs Squarespace

Zola is built specifically for weddings. Out of the box it gives you a free wedding website, a registry, a guest list, RSVP, and a planning checklist, with 500+ wedding templates and a free custom domain. You do not configure any of it; the wedding-specific tools are simply there.

Squarespace is a general-purpose website builder that happens to be popular for weddings. It gives you far more design control than any wedding platform, but it does not include wedding-specific features. There is no built-in registry and no real RSVP management; you assemble those from generic building blocks or external services. The trade is flexibility for convenience.

The cost structures are fundamentally different. Zola is free to build and publish a wedding website, including a custom domain, and it makes money on paper goods and premium add-ons rather than the site.

Squarespace is a paid subscription. Plans run roughly $16 to $23 per month billed annually for the tiers most couples use, after a 14-day free trial. For a wedding site you will use for a year or so, that is a real cost that Zola does not charge. The counterpoint is that the Squarespace site can keep living as a personal or family site after the wedding, which spreads the cost over more than one use.

This is the biggest practical gap. Zola has a built-in registry, the strongest cash-fund and universal-retail registry in the category, plus a real guest list and RSVP system designed for weddings. Guests gift and RSVP inside the same site.

Squarespace has neither built in. For a registry, you link out to an external service. For RSVP, you use a generic form block and connect it to email, Google Drive, or Mailchimp to collect responses, which is more setup and less wedding-aware than Zola's tooling. If you want the registry and RSVP handled for you, Zola is far ahead.

Squarespace's advantage is design. It offers full multi-page layouts, a mature editor, and best-in-class general templates, so you can build a genuinely custom, editorial site that reflects your taste rather than picking from wedding templates. There is also no wedding-platform branding anywhere on the site.

Zola's builder is clean and modern but constrained to wedding-website patterns, typically a single-page scroll with fixed sections. For a couple who wants something more designed and are comfortable doing more of the work, Squarespace is the better canvas. For a couple who wants a good-looking wedding site quickly and for free, Zola is faster.

Neither Zola nor Squarespace was built for destination weddings. Zola has a light travel module, and Squarespace can display travel information on a custom page, but neither manages guest-by-guest flight coordination, multi-event RSVPs with per-event meal selection, or accommodation-block assignment across multiple properties.
