The Ranch at Rock Creek is 6,600 acres of river, forest and valley in western Montana, an hour and a half south of Missoula, and the first guest ranch anywhere to hold a Forbes five-star rating. There are 29 places to sleep and no two categories are alike: suites in the Granite Lodge, rooms in a converted 1800s barn, standalone log homes, and canvas cabins on platforms by the creek. Rates start around $1,800 a room a night plus a 20 percent ranch fee and are all-inclusive, which here means every meal, all drinks, and the fly fishing, riding, sporting clays and guiding that fill the days between the parties. Weddings take a buyout of the whole ranch, minimum three nights, and five in peak summer. Up to 125 guests. Ceremonies happen in the meadow or by Rock Creek, dinner moves into the Granite Lodge courtyard, and the night ends in the Silver Dollar Saloon, which has a bowling lane and a stage. The trade is distance: Missoula is 90 minutes on roads that are quiet and beautiful and empty of anything resembling a taxi, so transfers need arranging rather than assuming.
