Le Consulat in Lisboa, open MaySeptember.

Built in 1755 as a nobleman's palace following the Lisbon earthquake, Le Consulat later served as a diplomatic residence before its meticulous restoration as a luxury hotel.

This 18th-century landmark on Praça Luís de Camões preserves period architecture while offering contemporary wedding facilities with views overlooking one of Lisbon's most historic squares.

The venue balances its storied past with modern event capabilities, accommodating ceremonies and receptions within restored salons that retain original Portuguese tilework and classical details.

Le Consulat was formally known as the Brazilian embassy. It's interior is grand with high ceilings beautiful architraves and lots of wood. We had a two bedroom apartment on the third floor which had one on suite and a further bathroom. The kitchen facilities were part of the lovely large lounge which had two twin patios overlooking a very busy beautiful square . The breakfast was served afternoon tea style with a good choice of pastries ham, cheese and bread. Yougart and grinola was available. There was also scrambled eggs . The breakfast was lovely but the service was a bit hit and miss with the eggs sometimes coming out with the cold food which meant they would chill before eating . We loved the breakfast would would have liked the choice of some toast . The staff were very helpful as we did have a few problems with the apartment. The safe didn't work, the wardrobe door would not shut . These matters were attended to. The other issue which we found difficult is the lighting in the apartment, it's set to very dim which is apparently how the owners want it in terms of a calm atmosphere however we found this challenging. I guess in the summer it's not a problem. There was also a lack of useable mirrors, the one in my bedroom was almost completely black , it looked like an antiquity so fitted in with the interior but totally unusable . The hotel is directly opposite a tram /bus stop so very handy for location. It's an extremely busy square which means there was some noise late at night to be aware if you are a light sleeper but there is a compromise in that it's super handy for everything. A top tip would be when organising an Uber to ask the receptionist for the proper address otherwise the driver goes elsewhere and I'd hard to find .
