Winter Wedding Venues.

Winter wedding venues split into two camps — tropical sun (Bali, Maldives, Tulum) or alpine snow (Swiss Alps, Aspen). Both peak December through February.

Winter wedding venues fall into two distinct camps, and the choice between them shapes everything else about your wedding. Tropical winter venues — Bali, the Maldives, the Caribbean, Tulum, Costa Rica — offer December through February as their peak dry season, with reliable warm weather, calmer seas, and the lowest hurricane risk of the year. Alpine and mountain venues — the Swiss Alps, Aspen, the Dolomites, the Scottish Highlands — lean into the cold with snow-covered vistas, cozy fires, and a more intimate guest experience.

For U.S. couples, the practical math usually tilts tropical. December through February is hurricane-free across the Caribbean, dry-season in Southeast Asia, and the only stretch of the year you can reliably promise outdoor ceremonies in coastal Mexico or Central America. Costs are typically 10–20% higher than shoulder months because demand is higher, but the weather predictability is worth the premium for outdoor weddings.

The winter market is also defined by the holidays themselves. Couples who choose dates around Christmas, New Year’s, or Valentine’s Day often find their wedding doubles as a group vacation — guests already had time off, flights are usually cheaper booked far in advance, and the celebratory atmosphere bakes in for free. The trade-off is that vendors charge holiday premiums and venues book out 14–18 months in advance for premium dates.

On the snow side, the market is smaller but no less mature. Premium Alpine venues (Andermatt, Verbier, Cortina) book peak Christmas and New Year’s dates 18–24 months out. Domestic mountain venues (Aspen, Park City, Telluride) follow the same calendar logic but with simpler legal paperwork for U.S. couples. The defining trade-off: snow weddings are visually unmatched, but the logistics for guests — winter travel, snow gear, ground transport on icy roads — are heavier than tropical.
